Animals experience life like we do. They know how to love, how to please and share joy. They can feel heartbreak and sadly, some experience real trauma. Healing Touch for Animals® (HTA) is a safe, gentle, and natural approach to animal health and wellness through each stage of life.
Healing Touch for Animals® techniques support the animal's energetic body so the physical body and mental strength can maintain the health and wellness they deserve. Healing Touch for Animals® teaches students how to assess an animal's energy system followed by specific techniques (using touch, near-touch, aromatherapy and/or sound therapy) to clear balance and strengthen the energy system.
HTA can be used on all species: small and large animals, birds, aquatics and exotics. Anyone who has the desire to assist an animal or human can easily learn HTA. The HTA techniques can also be integrated into a human energy therapy practice.

Understanding how the body responds to energy therapy explains how healing occurs with Healing Touch for Animals®. Following the cycle in a clockwise direction, beginning with “Relaxes Body” and ending with “Regulates Immune System”, this chart illustrates a full perspective of the body’s natural response to energy therapy.
Energy therapy sessions initiates a relaxation response.
The relaxation response releases endorphins in the brain.
The endorphins relax the muscles.
Relaxed muscles create more space between cells providing increased circulation.
The increased blood flow elevates oxygen levels throughout the body.
Accelerated blood flow allows nutrients to be absorbed more efficiently.
Enzymes build for proper digestion.
Hormones regulate to strengthen the body’s constitution.
Toxins release from the body.
Healthy cells begin to regenerate.
A sense of well-being is established which promotes healing.
When the body has a stable physiology, the immune system is regulated. The resulting stability within the immune system affects the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual facets of the body’s energy field supporting self-healing.
Allied Horsemanship will be offering animal Reiki services for horses, dogs, cats, and other animals with Dawn Adkins, an Animal Reiki Master. Services will be conducted in person or by long-distance sessions.
Animal Reiki is meditating with animals to create a compassionate healing space to relieve stress, promote relaxation, harmony, balance, and a sense of overall well-being. It honors the animal as an equal partner in the healing process. The animal can move freely in the healing space during the session. “Hands-on Reiki” is used only if initiated by the animal. Reiki is just as effective from a distance as it is hands-on. By creating a compassionate space, the animal receives the healing energy he or she needs, not what we as humans think the animal needs.
Reiki complements the animal’s health and wellness programs because it is safe, noninvasive, and does not interfere with medical/veterinary treatments. Reiki can do no harm and effectively address physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental issues of animals. Reiki always heals on some level, even if we do not see it. Reiki promotes a sense of harmony, peacefulness, and overall well-being, which allows the animal’s body to heal itself. Reiki can be used to help ease the transition between life and death for the animal by shifting the situation so that all concerned can accept the transition and let go.
